1994-2004 With then-business partner Lyne Burton, Joan co-founded Boomerang Kids, a kid’s consignment shop that became a gathering place, grew a dedicated and loyal clientele, created community events, supported children’s programs in Ottawa, and donated kids’ clothing to groups around the world.
2005 Ready for a new challenge, Joan and Lyne opened the WAG Doggin’ It Café in Ottawa. The first of its kind in town, Wag was a “posh shop for pets”, with a warm and inviting pet-friendly café, and the K9 Doggie Day Care. By 2007, Joan had conceived of the idea of having their very own coffee roasted locally, and Joe the Dog Coffees were launched. The partners hosted numerous dog social events centered around the café, from Dog Lovers’ Valentine nights to the famous “Do You Look Like Your Dog” contests.
2015-Today Wag was sold, Lyne entered the real estate arena, and Joan kept company with Joe. She has expanded and perfected the line of coffee, working with local roasteries to get them just right, bringing Joe the Dog coffees to the world! Joe is now available in over 30 locations (Metro and Farmboys!!) from Cumberland to London, Ontario (see our FIND JOE page – it’s near you!)
COMMUNITY In keeping with a long history of community support and involvement, and the ever-growing love for her own rescued pets (and everyone else’s), Joan (and Joe the Dog) continue to stay busy watching out for our furry friends. You’ll find Joan at her own planned events, participating in local fundraising efforts, attending gourmet food and drink shows, and donating a portion of their proceeds to animal rescue organizations. A now - veteran small business owner, Joan continues to help and promote other small business owners along the way.
